Government limits trade margin on oxygen concentrators

In view of the extraordinary circumstances arising due to the COVID pandemic, which has resulted in recent fluctuations in the Maximum Retail Prices (MRP) of Oxygen Concentrators, the Government has decided to take steps to regulate the price of Oxygen Concentrators is. As per the information collected by the government, the margin at the distributor level currently stands at 198%.

By applying extraordinary powers under Para 19 of DPCO, 2013 in the larger public interest, NPPA has restricted the trading margin on Oxygen Concentrators to 70% at Price to Distributor (PTD) level. Earlier, in February 2019, NPPA had successfully capped trade margins on anti-cancer drugs. 

Based on the notified trade margin, NPPA has directed the manufacturers/importers to report the revised MRP within three days.Revised MRP to be communicated in public domain by NPPA within a week

Every retailer, dealer, hospital and institution shall display the price list submitted by the manufacturer on a conspicuous part of the business premises in such a manner that is easily accessible to any person who wishes to consult it.

Manufacturers/importers not complying with the revised MRP after capping the trade margin to deposit the overcharged amount with interest at the rate of 15% and penalty up to 100% under the provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 will be liable. Essential Commodities Act, 1955. State Drug Controllers (SDCs) will monitor compliance of the order to ensure that no manufacturer, distributor,The retailer shall not sell Oxygen Concentrator to any consumer at a price exceeding the revised MRP.
