INDIA's First vaccine to start Trials on Children's of age group 2-18 | COVAXIN trial on 2-18 year olds begins at AIIMS-Patna

AIIMS-Patna has started clinical trial of COVAXIN on children. Reportedly, registrations of children to participate in these trials were opened at the institute last week.

COVAXIN was approved by India's top drug regulator on May 11 to conduct clinical trials on children. The clinical trial will be conducted on 525 volunteers across the country. AIIMS-Patna aims to include 70-80 children in the trial

Those registered children who test negative in RT-PCR and antibody tests will be able to participate. The vaccine will be given first to the 12-18 age group, then to the 6-12 age group. The development is important as India does not have a COVID-19 vaccine for children.

Apparently, experts have sought a vaccine for children out of fear that the third wave of coronavirus could be dangerous for children. So far, some countries such as the United States and Canada have approved COVID-19 vaccines for children.
