WHO's technical chief Maria Wayne Kherkhov said on Friday that Omicron has seen some worrying properties, which has led to it being dubbed a 'variant of concern'. He said that many mutations have occurred in it and some of them have been shown to have worrying properties.

According to the US CDC, a strain of the virus is considered a 'variant of concern' that is more infectious, increases the number of hospitalizations and deaths and reduces the efficacy of existing vaccines against it.
